After releasing their heavily emotional debut album Hospice, The Antlers are ready to let you listen to their entire forthcoming album Burst Apart, via NPR’s First Listen program.
It’s safe to say that I was one of those people who could not stop listening to Hospice after I first heard it, and pushed the album onto all of my friends who either turned out to hate them because of my aggressive approach or who loved it, because they too, could see how genius the concept and the sound of the album was. The only problem I had with Hospice was that once the album became so familiar, I could only listen to it when I was in a certain mood, usually feeling down, as the album has such a dark vibe to it. I am hoping Burst Apart is less of a ‘mood’ based album and I can enjoy each track separately, rather than having to experience the entire album to get that sense of fulfillment.
“I tend to think of the songs on Burst Apart as being a picture of a period of time in my life,” Silberman says. “Less like one story and more like a change in a way of thinking over time. It begins in a pretty negative, anxious place, at arm’s length — and as it progresses, it becomes warmer and more trusting.” – Peter Silberman of The Antlers
So far (halfway through it) the album sounds great, so quit reading this and go have a listen below or over at NPR. Burst Apart out May 10th via FrenchKiss
