Thundercat + Flying Lotus – A Prelude to “Shenanigans Pt. 1″
Genres can often be limiting when describing someone’s sound, which is especially true when it comes to anything involving Flying Lotus and Thundercat. You could call it psychedelic-infused soulful trippy hip-hop indie electronic music, and it is, and yet it’s something else entirely. Thundercat’s heart of gold and beautiful funk, jazzy, soulful grooves get the trademark cerebral yet dreamy left-field Flying Lotus treatment on his debut album “The Golden Age of Apocalypse” which drops Aug. 30th.
For those who know Flying Lotus, but don’t know Thundercat, you probably know more than you realize. Thundercat is the amazingly amazing bassist that’s been, shall we say, instrumental, in contributing to the Flying Lotus sound, and can be heard all over albums like ‘Cosmogramma’ and ‘Pattern+Grid World’. Since they’ve been working together all along, you can expect the sound of Thundercat’s album to be pleasantly familiar.
Good vibes and cosmic love is the result. Basically, if you’re not familiar with these two yet, it’s time to get excited when Flylo uploads a track and basically says “Here’s some things, a prelude to the LP. Some new, some you might know, some we may never release.”
